I have been hearing some stories that foreign working women are treated badly in the Dubai/Sharjah. Is this true? Not for the sex business...I have been hearing stories that office female workers arent treated equally or whatever sort of unfairness. How true is this?

Not only in Dubai and Sharjah. The UAE is full of foreign male nationals who are not used to that a woman makes the same kind of money than men. Many times that can lead to problems. Not to long ago I read a letter to the editor in the Gulf news. A guy of a certain nationality wrote: A gap between salaries of male and female employees is necessary. In case the woman makes the same amount as the man or even more, it will mostly cause problems in their marriage. After reading this I talked to a french boss of 7 (of this certain nationality) who wants to have an european lady on his team. So far he did not find anybody because every woman fears to be mobbed by the men because she will at least make the same money. It would be wrong to generalize but most problems you have to expect in case your future collegues are Indians and Pakistanis (no offense, please!) and you earn the same or even more. This should not keep you away from working in the UAE. The UAE has a good working law. Just stand up for your rights and put people politley in place where necessary. Take care. edit Vinod: if a woman works together with a majority of a certain nationality which are not used to equal rights a woman mostly (not always) has to face problems. You can not deny that.

it depends what business ur in and yr nationality, asian maids have always been treated badly, as have asian women in some workplaces, when i was in the local hospital having my baby the local women talked to the indian consultant like she was their maid. its always been like that, i lived there a few years ago. if u want to find good treatment try a western company or the same nationality as ur.

Dear, In my experience, I dont think so, because many (mostly) of the working ladies are foreigners, and I believe most of them are not facing any problems like bad treatment from colleagues or superiors. In my company, a good treatment and equal status is given for foreign lady employees. Thx

Probably depends on the employer. I work for a really good employer and there doesn't seem to be any gender discrimination. The Westerners seem to make a lot more than the Indians though.
